COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

CARROLL COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (CCCF) invites non-profit organizations which serve children and youth to submit grant application requests for $100 to $1000. Applications must be postmarked by February 15. The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) will review applications and make recommendations to the CCCF Board. Results will be announced in April. Opportunity To Be Part Of Oklahoma City Ad Campaign

The “Thunder Run” will be held in OKC April 3, 4 & 5, 2009. The organization will be spending approximately $25,000 in TV, radio & print advertising. In previous years, 25,000 – 30,000 bikers have attended. This is a chance for your lodging or business to be part of the ad campaign without spending cash. A “Eureka Springs Get Away” package will be awarded as one of the prizes. Proceeds from the event benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society. We are seeking 2 nights lodging (may be limited as you desire), meals, spa days/massages, attractions passes, and other goodies. If interested, please reply to ken@eurekasprings.org

“A Class Act” – Fundraiser for the U of A Hospitality & Restaurant Management Program Advisory Board

February 6-7 at the 1886 Crescent Hotel.
A gala event showcasing authentic Arkansas hospitality, cuisine and entertainment.
Packages start at $350 and include a room at the historic Crescent Hotel, reception with hors d’oeuvre stations, wine service, silent auction, dinner featuring Arkansas-inspired cuisine, entertainment and a breakfast buffet.
The objective of the fundraising event is to raise money to support the growth and development of the Hospitality & Restaurant Management Program at the University of Arkansas. Specifically, the proceeds from this year’s event will provide HRMN student scholarships, professional development programs, equipment/supply needs and seed money for research projects promoting excellence in hospitality.

Grow Your Own

This workshop is for people who are dedicated to growing their food in their own backyard or with the idea of starting a small-scale farm. This workshop is also for those considering becoming a trainee at Patrice & Karen Gros’ farm during the 2009 season. The workshop will include a visual presentation of the farm’s organic/no-till methods, a spreadsheet-driven explanation on how to plan your gardening season, a “Question & Answer” session. The $35 fee (per household) includes a complete crop plan for 2009. The workshop will be held at the home of Patrice & Karen Gros in Eureka Springs. (Directions will be emailed.) Khentrul Lodro Thaye Rinpoche, a highly respected Tibetan teacher, will be visiting Eureka Springs to give a public talk. Rinpoche is building a Buddhist retreat center outside of Jasper, AR and he is looking forward to meeting local residents.
